Last January, we went to Cameron Highlands for a quick weekend getaway. During our stay there, my mom booked us rooms in The Arundina which is a guest house in Tanah Rata.

I loved our stay in this guest house as it really gave us that feeling of being in an actual home in the mountains. It’s a simple, no frills place and is quiet at night as they have a no-noise policy after 10pm which is a huge plus for me. I just cannot stand noise at night – heavy feet and closing doors counted.

We booked a Standard Double room which costs RM189 (Php2306.54, EUR48.66, USD52.15) per night on weekends.

The rooms are clean and spacious and they look exactly like the photos posted on the Arundina website. I absolutely hate it when some hotels, guest houses, and bed & breakfast establishments post awesome photos of their “rooms” then disappoint you once you get there.

January mornings in Cameron Highlands mean crazy low temperatures and showering can be a chore. Glad to report that our room had a functioning water heater that made my early morning shower a lot more easier.

The rooms don’t have TVs but there is an interesting selection of books, magazines, and comics in different languages to keep you occupied. There are also board games like Monopoly which you can borrow.

There’s wifi in the guest house but just in case you didn’t bring your own laptop or if your smart phone isn’t working, you can use their PC to research on which hiking trail you can go next. 😉

The people running the place are also very nice and helpful. We booked our Mossy Forest Tour (which I’ll write a post about later) with them.

Breakfast is pretty simple – toast, which they will prepare for you with your choice of jam, cereal, coffee, tea, or milk. Most of the people who check in at Arundina are European backpackers who like going on early hikes so it’s best you get up quite early too to have some breakfast – just so you can have your pick of the cereal. 😉

The Arundina guest house is located at:

17, Jalan Mentigi, 39000 Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia.

I highly recommend this place instead of staying in a hotel. It really feels like a home away from home.

More later. 😉
