It took a while but finally – Burt’s Bees’ Lip Crayons have finally reached our side of the world! I was lucky enough to be invited at the launch, held at Marini’s in Suria KLCC a couple of weeks ago.

Afternoon tea + blogger friends + makeup. What more can a girl ask for, right?

Six colours were introduced – Hawaiian Smolder, Napa Vineyard, Redwood Forest, Carolina Coast, Niagara Overlook, and Sedona Sands.

My friends and I had fun swatching the  colours during the event but since the lighting at the venue was way too yellow, getting you good pictures that are true-to-colour was quite impossible. But fret not! I took some just yesterday under natural light. And there will be a review of 4 out of the 6 shades that they came out with in this post. 😉 I made the extra effort because you know I love you guys, right? *virtual hugs for my readers*

The day of the event was actually not the best day for me to attend a product launch focusing on a lip product. The Malaysian sun has been pretty cruel lately and my skin – particularly on my lips – has been reacting to it. I was nursing a very bad sore which I got from the heat. Not to mention that I had two tiny (but very noticeable) pimples that day. Blech. Come to think of it, I wasn’t really in the mood to go out that day.

However, since I’ve been dying to try these products out since late 2014, I figured – why let heat and skin nuances stop me? 😉

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I’m perfectly fine now. No sore and pimples anymore. Whew! 😀

My friends Samia (in black) and Aliza (in orange) modelled some of the lip colours for that day, Don’t they look stunning? 😉

So. Let’s move on to the actual review. Here are the shades that I was given that day:

THE LOWDOWN:

All colours are advertised to have a matte finish and made of 100% natural ingredients like Shea Butter, Kendi Oil, and Jojoba Oil. These ingredients will keep your lips soft and smooth while nourishing and moisturising them too.

Applying these lip crayons are a breeze. I love the form of the tip which makes applying on the cupid’s bow and the rest of the lips (even the corners) quite easy.

Despite the promised matte finish, they are creamy and the colour glides smoothly. It’s also lightweight and comfortable. The best part? The colour stays put! It’s moisturising but the formula isn’t too wet so it won’t slip and slide on your lips. There is also minimal transfer to mugs when you drink.

As for the finish, I would say that it is 80% matte. There’s a bit of sheen during the first few minutes after application but it wears off as the product clings to your lips and settles. Throughout a day of wearing the product, I only had to re-apply once after a meal.

It is not drying at all and my lips did feel healthy and smooth even after I have already taken the product off. No chapping or drying out which happens a lot  after wearing my other (extremely) matte lipsticks.

REDWOOD FOREST

I am head over heels in love with this colour! It’s the perfect, everyday red for the spring/summer. Not too bold and not too loud. It’s got the right amount of flirt in it, muted with a subtle shade of rose-brown. It’s so gorgeous! These photos don’t even do it justice.

CAROLINA COAST

After swatching this colour on my friend Miriam’s arm during the event, I didn’t have high hopes for it. It looked too sheer and wasn’t reaching my standards when it comes to colour payoff at the time. However, after trying it again at home, I realised that the colours of these lip crayons are actually buildable!

Carolina Coast is a sweet, innocent pink. It’s so girly, it can pass for a baby pink that doesn’t wash you out at all.

NIAGARA OVERLOOK

Like Carolina Coast, this shade also looked too sheer when it was swatched but once applied on the lips, it also showed its ‘true colour’. It’s a hip, orange-coral shade that’s perfect for a bright, sunny Kuala Lumpur day.

HAWAIIAN SMOLDER

Burt's Bees, Lip Crayon, Lip Colour, Makeup, Beauty, Natural, Organic, Cosmetics, Review, Blogger, Recommendations, Diplomat's Wife, Swatches, Lipstick, Hydrating, Hawaiian Smolder

A vibrant, hot pink that will certainly update ANY look. It’s fun, it’s flirty, and… I have no more words. It’s just a gorgeous colour. I swooned the first time I saw it, to be honest.

Aren’t all these colours pretty? There are two more – Sedona Sands (nude pink) and Napa Vineyard (bold, red). They are also worth checking out! 😉

Oh, and before I forget, I should tell you that the swatches on my lips were applied without lip balm underneath. Normally, I would never put lip colours on without applying lip balm first but I found that the colours of these lip crayons are easier to build up without lip balms. Also, they are very hydrating so even without a balm, my lips were still soft and hydrated when I took it off at night. 😉
